Wed 12 Aug Went to the Nairobi Game Park with Linda and
three-year old Andrew and their driver Josphat in their Mitsubishi
Pajero (Montero in the United States). This was my first game drive,
and we saw zebra, ostrich, monkies, baboon, hyrax, and gazelle, all
within a few minutes from downtown Nairobi.
|
We had stopped near a river to see if any hippos were around when I
took this picture of a female vervet monkey. I was on foot about three
feet away.
|
|
I like this picture because it's so colorful. We bumped into
another group on foot at the stop, and one of the guys was a cameraman
for Fox News (does Fox do news?). Anyway, he walked up to this monkey
and pointed his camera at it for about a minute and then walked away.
He said he was in Kenya to cover the bombing.

|
I took this picture of a female baboon and her baby from the back of
the Pajero The dirty grass in the lower right corner is the very close
to the dirt road. She was with a group of about 10 other baboon.
|
Thu 13 Aug Went to the Giraffe Center today. Picked up
Brandon after his first day of kindergarden at the International
School. Also at the International School, I met Joanne Husky and her
daughter. Joanne and her entire family were in the embassy when the bomb
exploded, and the family of four survived. Outwardly she seemed very
strong, but there was a slight undertone of shakiness in her manner.
|
This is a picture of Giraffe Manor adjacent to the Giraffe Park.
You can actually stay in this building, and a giraffe might poke its
head in your window for a snack.
|
|
You can feed the giraffes at the Park, and here's my nephew Andrew
(right) and his friend Kevin doing just that.
