Fri 21 Aug We left for the coastal island of Lamu this afternoon on Air Kenya on a Dash 7. This seems to be the same plane we flew to the Mara. It's a quad-engine, propeller-driven, retractable gear plane that holds about 50 people. Jim and Lois Lobben are with us. Ed works with Jim at Coca-Cola. How can I describe the house we stayed in? On the first level was an open air courtyard, a sitting room, the dining room, and the kitchen. Everything was open, and ocean breezes wafted through all day. The second level had three bedrooms, each with a balcony and a bathroom. Again, everything is open. The third level had a huge balcony and one bedroom with bath. The forth level was a rooftop deck and wet bar covered by a thatched roof. The view from the top looked out to the next island and the Indian Ocean. This was the relaxation part of the vacation, and I pretty much drank beer, ate, and sat on the beach. Sun 23 Aug Flew back to Nairobi. |
